After 11 incredibly reliable and thoroughly enjoyable years I have had to put my beloved ‘Jimmy’ up for sale.

Jimmy is a left hand drive 1979 Daimler (Mercedes) 307D van originally built into a motorhome by Westfalia in Germany whilst brand new from the Mercedes production line, named the Westfalia James Cook. Westfalia James Cook campervans remain today to be one of the best in motorhome builds on the road.

My version has been imported into the UK in 1997 and has some service history from Germany where it was originally registered in 1979. I have owned it since November 2000 and have always maintained it thoroughly being a mechanic by trade. In 2002 I replaced the original Petrol engine and 4 speed gearbox with a more modern (1990) 2400cc Diesel engine and 5 speed gearbox which had only done 100,000miles. Today still this engine runs without oil or water usage and runs faultlessly at all times.

Also due to its age in 2002 I spend many weeks cutting some major corrosion away from the rear & front arches, rear gutter and removed several large dents and repainted Jimmy in a more modern white & blue than the previous white blue & gold.

Unfortunately the rust is rearing its ugly head again. Jimmy does require for aesthetic purposes only at this stage quite a lot of rust removal and rebuilding of some panels to remain in good useable condition. At the most recent MOT test, (June 2011) the rust was not a serious problem and only advised. The Chassis of the vehicle is in incredible condition for its age due to the protection applied when new.

Also one of the Perspex windows is requiring replacement due to it being structurally cracked, it is still secure and functional but replacement is required at some stage. It also has a position for a Eberspacher heater and up to recently this worked to keep us warm in the winter. It has now gone faulty but the pump and controller remain, so a replacement unit and you’ll be as warm as toast again.

I would repair this rust, replace the window myself and continue to use Jimmy for many years to come, however a move to Australia is imminent so I simply don’t have time to bring him back up to tiptop condition.

This motorhome is in fully working condition and has been built to a high standard by westfalia. It is old however and is starting to show many signs of this. You could quite happily get in it now fill it up with diesel and drive about Europe; it is in sound mechanical condition.

Price = £2,500 ono
